What Next Season Shall Behold

The season is less than 50 days away. The draft is just a month away. The roster is unknown to most teams between players called up last season, others heading overseas, and handful who will make NBA training camp roster. The Utah Flash have none of those. Dontell Jefferson and Gavin Grant were most likely to be called up in my opinion and both sat out the last half of the season due to injury. While I don’t know who we plan to draft on November 1st, go to the draft party with me!!!, through much research i have figured out the possibilities of what our final roster will look like.

Rod Benson, better known as BoomTho!

Rod Benson annouced "Preparing to return to the blog game. Who's comin with me?" I've been off my blog game this year so I guess imma join him, my first subject. Mr BoomTho himself...

If you have yet to hear about the one of a kind man name Rod Benson, something is wrong with the way you are living you life.

The history: (for what i know)

Cal Bears. That is where Rod Benson went to college and where Boom Tho was conceived. Him and some friend always said "Boom Tho". It was sortof an inside joke. They're great around friends but no one else knows what your talking about. Rod decited to expand this Boom Tho movement and spread it throughout the world. (Its big now, he got his own article in SLAM magazine.) More of the history (from his point of view) and a definition found here. His site is called TooMuchRodBenson.com that came from a college game when the announcer was talking about Benson's dominance and so he kept saying it. Its true. Also, some random man made a site something like NotEnoughRodBenson or ToLittleRodBenson along those lines. You know your doing good things when people will pay to try to annoy / get your attention.
How i met Rod Benson: (2007-2000∞) (i hope to know rod until i die)

For a while i read Rod's blog. It was great and stories that gave me a good laugh every once in a while. (Rod blogs on both Yahoo! and his own site TooMuchRodBenson) I noticed a little ad on his site about how you can see a D-League game for free. This seems like a great idea, why leave tickets for people like Barack Obama when you can give them to your fans. I hit Mr. Benson up with an email and what do you know. The night of the game came around and there were two tickets in will call with my name on it. (I sat in my normal seats behind the bench cheering for the flash, unless Rod scored, which bugged the coaches.) I talked to Rod at the game a little but i do that with all the oppoments. I would find him on twitter where we got talking even more. The next time the Reno Bighorns came to town I walked over to their side of the court and he called me by name. Wow! a big time celeb knows me. Thats' cool... Later games in Utah we would joke around about stuff like the cute cheerleaders and just talk like i fit in (everyone knows "boomtho>you) So later, when the D-League Showcase headed up to Boise, Idaho I decided to tag along, by myself. Between games i went in their hotel to grab an apple of the main desk and saw Rod. He was kind enough to say hello and introduce me to his homies. Later on in the week I would help out the youngsters as a ball boy. Rod was kind to the everyone.

Boom Tho Gear: (my review of it)

Rod Benson came out with a couple crap items before i met him. he had his own custom shoes and a shirt with the word BoomTho on it. Next Rod went through his Sesame Street phase which also included a couple colorful dots. This gear was better. Its nothing you'd buy at the mall but who knows, I bet Walmart would of bought into it. (Walmart was the joint up in Bismark when Rod played for the Dakota Wizards) My favorite shirt was the See-Hear-Speak Boomtho shirt. Which for some reason i didn't purchase... I did purchase a cooler shirt, so I guess I lied when i said "my favorite shirt" above. oops. Well this shirt was dope. it says "I Am Mad Boom Tho" its written in reflective silver so i guess i could go running in it at night. This is def the coolest shirt i have yet to laid eyes on i would buy it from Donald Trump if he were to sell it. (if im still on the front page of NBADLeague.com im wearing the shirt in it.) Also if your standing in front of a mirror you can read it also on the back its reversed. SOOOOO SICK! He also had a special BoomThoGirl shirt that came out around valentines day (i think) its pretty good. see it, its his twitter background

This year Rod came out with more gear. I was really excited to hear when he broke the news that new gear was coming out. Unfortunately it was not so hot. It all features some sunglasses and his lil' trucker hat. Not even Walmart would accept this as a donation. Thankfully he added the BoomTho Explosion shirts a couple weeks later. Boom Tho: The Mixtape!: Rod's Music

The Album art is pretty hot. He does some nice things on this. Not the kind of stuff that you would hear on the dance floor but nice car/chill music. You def need to download it, yes i have the entire thing on my Ipod and a couple music videos. (I talked to Bennet Davis at the Showcase and that's where he first heard the sweet tunes via my ipod) My favorite track is titled Don't Call Me Tall. Its good and I can relate. (Im 6'5")

Warining the following post is not true to my knowledge. It just poped in my head one day after the Utah Flash season had come to a close and i was thinking about their future without me, atleast for the next two seasons. Give me your feedback on your thoughs and critisize me if i write someting dumb. You can post a comment or hit me up on twitter. I want your feedback. So here it goes.

When you think about playing professional basketball in the United States of America you always have a few dollar signs attatched. That is, unless your talking about the NBA Development League. After Brandt Andersen sold his company he started at BYU he was sitting around with a couple million dollars and decited to do something that involved his love, but something he wasnt good enough, but was smart enough to give up on the dream as a kid. That was playing in the NBA. Now since had a couple million bucks. (note i talked with the owner of the Iowa Energy on the phone during the season and he said Brandt had alot more money then himself) Brandt is a pretty smart man and not a bad ball player. (note2 Me and Brandt had a freethrow contest at the Flash Factory two summers ago and he beat me by one, but if your reading this Brandt i guarantee that i will beat you if we ever have a rematch) Anyhow, as the story goes Brandt called up the NBA and told them he wanted to buy a NBA team, they said that wasnt possible and since a man named Larry H. Miller lived in Utah and had a lot more money then Brandt the league gave him another suggestion, purchase a team in the NBA Development League.

I first heard about the Utah Flash on KSL. They announced that their was a new NBA minor league team that would be located in Orem, Utah. Thats just 10 minutes away from my house and a real benefit towards me compared to going to the Utah Jazz games more thatn 45 minutes away. Plus the prices were alot more affordable. But that was a problem for Brandt. Owning a team is great but it cost money and no one likes to own a buisness that has a loss. The flash did a great job of marketing before their opening seaosn. Their lil slogan was "Witness the Beginning" (note3 they gave away t-shirts at opening game that said this, pretty cool)

While waiting for both the Jazz and Flash seasons to start i made my way over to the Rocky Mountain Revue. There the Flash had a contest between the 3rd and 4th quarters of the Jazz game or whom ever was playing the last game of the night. The first person who text the word "Flash" won a pair of tickets to opening night against the Dakota Wizards! I had already purchased my Utah Flash tshirt at Fanzz. You may think this is just a small promotion, giving away a few tickets for their first game but it would forever change the face of the NBA Development League and the Utah Flash in a postive direction. The first night my friend won the contest. We were all pumped to go to the game and driven that the others would do the same. Due to my lack of texting skill back then i was unable to win the contest on day two. Luckly i was smart enough to hack the contest. I just texted it on the third day in the middle of the third so i had the winning text ready when they announce the contest a few minutes later. I gave my name to the Flash table as was set to get crazy on opening night. (note4 if that way didnt work we would of just forwarded his message to me and showed it to them) (note5 i showed a handicap dude how to win the tickets this same way the next day do cancel out my rigging the contest, Carma)

So it was the stage was set for the very first Utah Flash game in history. I was running a little late but luckly the Bear and Flash Fox rode their motorcycle a little to much before the game so they had it start a little later, like 5 seconds after i arrived. I thought i was dressing up crazy with my black utah flash shirt and long red socks but little did the other fans know they were just a witness to the beginning. As it was Brandt made another smart decision by choosing to give the winners not just tickets to opening night but tickets for the entire season!!!!!! woo hooo! i was sooo happy (note6 i never actually found the location of those seats because there was always an empty seat or two in the center section) The first flash game was a huge sucess until the final .03 or so seconds which Kevin Lyde had a chance to nail a turnaround jumper from the baseline for the win (note7 i can still see that shot in my head with perfect memory of everything going around me)

The season went pretty good, I even went to 2 away games but thats a different story, besides one thing. Brandt was losing money. I was able to talk the team into letting me help out at the Hoop-it-up and advertising with the Flash. This is where Abby Pierce, now the VP for the Maine Red Claws first introduced me to "Brandt Buck" this was a simple little thing that the flash staff used to buy whatever they wanted on the job like my lunch for the day.

After the first season Brandt could see that he had to make a few changes to the team if he wanted to start making money. (note8 this is where the conspiracy comes in. The above part is just crap history i was blabbering on about for way to long) One of the most expensive parts of owning a D-Legaue team is the cost for travel. NBDL guys dont get to fly on a private plane like the superstars in the NBA. They normally fly Southwest, or occasionally Delta, then drive on a bus to their next arena. (note9 Morris Almond told me a story about how the team and their oppoment both flew on the same plane and bus after a back to back in different cities with the same team, that'd be weird) Every team has 24 home games and 24 on the road. There isnt much you can do about those but there are two games at the D-League Showcase that Brandt could control. So to save money brandt had the Showcase scheduled at the McKay Events Center, home of the Utah Flash. this brought in extra revenue and got me out of school for a week to watch some basketball (note10 This is the only time i have ever sluff school other than my trips to Boise Idaho for more D-League Basketball)

Brandt was on track to keeping the loss to a minimun. The Flash won the Western Conference their second year in the League and were the number 2 seed in the Playoffs. Things were going great. The fans were all thinking about the possibility of the first championship in the state of utah, unfortunatly Brandt and the Utah Flah had different plans. The first two rounds we wanted to win, they were on our court then the finals we would play the Colorado 14ers. Brandt had mixed up a few people by making up a fight with 14ers coach Bob MacKinnon (note11 i might of spelled Bob's name wrong but i dont care so dont give me crap for that like you gave Brandt cause thats just stupid) They didnt shake hands and we had a little rivalry on our hands. Unfortuatly the Finals were a best of 3 series. Brandt didnt want it to go to 3. That would cost he money for hotels and flights in Colorado. After the first half the flash were down big and it looked like the 14ers wanted revenge on their loss in the 07 finals to the Dakota Wizards. Brandt went into the oppoments locker room and made an agreement. If the 14ers let the fans get some excitement we would blow the second game and give them the championship, which we did we let them outscore us by 26 in the second half of game two. They agreed and did just that. The Flash made one of the biggest comebacks in D-League history and took the game to overtime where we would allow them to win.

The second year was much of the same. Brandt blackmailed (note12 that was stupid reasoning but it was the first thing that popped in my mind) the D-League and forced them to hold it in Boise Idaho again, the second closest city which would save a huge chunk of change for the Flash. The season didnt finish out as we all planed but the flash were in the playoffs as the 7th seed. Thankfully Brandt had made an agreement with the Iowa Energy. We both were able to purchase our plane tickets weeks in advance and save tons of money, something that could of been avoided if we had just switche to geico. lol sorry that just poped in my head. (note13 I talked with Dan Reed D-League President about this rumor which is what got me thinking about this whole post, he would not comment on it) The Iowa Energy team liked to save money also and earn a little more if possible. They have a pretty nice fan base. The League had change the playoff format and since the flash were the 7th seed and we did not have home court there was not point of going far in the playoffs since it would just cost us money. Besides purchasing the plane tickets together in advance Brandt and Chris Makris, GM of the Energy, worked out this small deal. The flash would run all over the Energy in game one, as we did so winning by 31. This would get the fans excited for next season and get the 10% off next season by purchasing their season tickets early. Then the flash would go back to Iowa and finish up the season and head home. The tickets for the flight back were purchase weeks before we "knew" what was going to happen.

After all as the man and president Dan Reed “One of our fundamental goals at the NBA D-League is to utilize our unique position to explore new and different ways to grow the game." We all think the refs rig the games to make the Celtics and Lakers renew their rivalry but maybe the D-League was doing a few test rigs in the D-League that would easily get unnoticed. The world may never know.

(note14 after typing this whole post it sounds kind of stupid but im just gonna publish it anyways. You can do what you want with it. I doubt 90% of the stuff i typed actually went down but who knows. Thanks for reading and have a blessed summer)

This playoff race is close. Everyone knows, currently on Ridiculous Upside there is a poll asking which team will fill the last 2 seeds for the playoffs. The result so far??? All teams have 7 votes! Here is how it looks

*Note* we need to cheer for Albuquerque (New Mexico next season) as they play both Tulsa and Ausin twice to finish the season.

We play both Friday & Saturday against Idaho (at home, buy tickets!) and this is really make or break for our team. Coach Brad Jones told the team they need to play this weekend against Idaho like its a playoff series. (Best of 3 games, but i wouldnt mind winning all 3) Hopefully everyone knows how critical this stretch is.

As far as when we make the playoffs (which we will) its going to be hard to determine who we will play. As you (should) know, in the D-League the top 4 teams get to pick who they play in the first round. I really have no clue. This is the top 4 in the playoffs

1. Iowa (35-11)
2. RGV (31-13)
3. Austin (28-16)
4. Sioux Falls (28-18)

Why do i have no clue who we are going to be picked by is.... We have not played any of them really.

Iowa Energy? We played them once this season, back on Feb 20th. Since then the Jazz have called up Othyus Jeffers, who had 20 points that game. WAIT! WHAT IF THEY ASSIGNED JEFFERS TO THE FLASH!!! THAT'D BE SOOO COOL. But that is something a team like the Spurs would do with their affiliate the Ausin Toros. They recently signed a player and told him to stay in Austin. (why not sign a good player from another team and assign him to your team so they can win the post season games) oh well. That wont happen. Anyways we were up 9 with 6ish minutes left in the 2nd when Iowa went on a 9-0 run to tie the game. It went back and forth tell halftime. The second half we didnt play so well. (down 12ish most of the 4th quarter) and finally lost the game by 14.
(probability we get picked by Iowa? 42%)

Rio Grande Valley Vipers? Squat. Zip. Nada. Thats how many times we have played against the Valley Vipers this season. (note its the RGV Vipers not the Rio Grande... ValleyVipers) Our only game against them is this Tuesday. (Again i'll see you there) They have had alot of players called up from their team this season so im hoping they get that call so their team gets worst. Garrett Temple is gone to the Spurs. Mike Harris is in Houston (he will miss our game!!!!)

(it really depends on how we play them on Tuesday)

The Austin Toros. We have not played them either. (2 games against them to end the season on the road). They have had Alonzo Gee & Curtis Jerrells called up by Washington & San Antonio. Jerrells was assigned to the toros so that doesnt really matter. I dont really see them wanting to play us 5 games in a row but who knows. If they destroy us in the season finalle both times then why not grab us?

Sioux Falls Sky Force
We played the Force just once this season at home. And did terrible. We were outscored every quarter and lost the game 109-98. Dont worry yes some SF players had terrible games. David Baily (aka lil wayne') shot just 1/7 from 3 point land. Same with Leemire Goldwire just 1/5. DB is a .375% from 3 and Goldwire is .348% of cource the newest star of the Golden State Warriors, Reggie Williams, did put up 29 on us. Who knows? I doubt we play them.
(probability that no one picks us so we go to sf? 11%)

How I think the playoffs will go down. Sad but truthfully. :(

Weekend Preview against the D-Fenders (THANKS DIME)

I was reminded by the man who runs D-League Dime via Twitter that ive been off this season. his tweet said "gonna have to say good bye to the Flash blog soon. We need a replacement, come on flash fans" I was really bothered by this even though it is true. I have not really been on my post. So i will try to catch you up with everything then continue to write more frequently. I would also like to give a shoutout to flash owner brandt andersen. he also needs to step up his game. Brandt is a great owner but like me he is busy, B just needs a reminder to keep blogging.

(ive been good with the tweets just not the post, forgive me)

The Flash are currently 17-17 (.500) with just 16 games left in the season (9 @home). Im not very happy with our play as of late but it could be worst. Our rivals (The Idaho Stampede) are 15-17 (.454) They lost 10 of 12 before splitting the last four games.

Our next 2 games are vs the Los Angeles D-Fenders (fri @la sat @home) we should be able to win both of these games as the D-Fenders are in a real slump theyve won just 3 of their last 19 games (.157) and are now 10-20.

Weekend Preview

This season vs the Los Angeles D-Fenders: (2-0)

Dec 1st @ Staples Center - Flash win 85-84;
Dontell Jefferson had 21 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assist including the game winning runner with just 2 seconds left on the clock. Andre Ingram shot just 2/14 from the field (but he was 7/7 from the line), expect that to go up. The Flash shot just 39% (the 95.5% ft help alot) and were outrebounded by 7. We were also blocked 7 times which is way to many!!!!

Jan 15th @ McKay Events Center - Flash win 102-97;
Frank Robinson and Diamon Simpson combined for 56 points and 16 rebounds outscoring the flash 34-26 but that was not enough. We had an 18 point lead with just 6 minutes left and it looked like they were about to force the game into overtime but we made our free throws and were able to hang on.

Since that game:
Luke Nevill was having Visa problems and was not able to play (1st game), this time he is a go. We have also aquired former Flash players Kevin Kruger, Brian Hamilton and NBA Champion Gabe Pruitt... Siler, Cummard, Richards & Grant are no more.

LA is 2-16 when they score less than 102 points in a game. That is something that we should look at. If we can keep up the D we should be able to sweep them this year and improve in the standings. If the playoffs were to begin today we would be the 9th seed. that means we wouldnt be in the playoffs!!! NO! its never to early to start thinking about that. I have the first week of the playoffs off and i want to be able to use it.

P.S. Yes i went to Boise for the flash double header this year. Hopefully i'll post a little more about that tomorrow. So be back soon! Sorry again for the time lax. and Go Flash!

P.P.S or is it P.S.S ??? The flash play in LA on friday and then at home on saturday. Will they take the same flight to salt lake??? I bet. I'll ask 'em at the game.

Ive been slacking off on my post about whats up with the flash so imma try to make it up with the next few ones... Lets go back to the preseason game and I'll fill you all in with me and the gang.

Note: the Flash have played the least amount of home games (as of now) and the most amount of road games. (3h/6r). Overall Record as of now is 6-4. #2 in the west. #4 in the NBDL. (If the playoffs started today i think we'd be playing LA (the #7 spot)

Nov. 23 (Preseason) at(ish) Idaho Stampede - Lost 124-111.-
This was my first road game of the year. It was really fun. I got to talk to the whole team n' my boy Lanny Smith. What i learned from that game. "See Bob (coach)run... See bob score (alot)... see idaho is pretty good." even though they only have 2 (maybe 3) guys returning there a top pick in the western conference. I like Siler alot but he is unintelligent and decited to go play overseas... Also from my perspective Gavin Grant was the best player on the team. He is currently waived due to, im not really sure, they said he had the flu but its somethin else. Any ways he really wants to come back. After the Idaho home game he was pretty upset about not being able to play. He likes the uptemp games. Also we were talkin about fan making noise during the foul shots at the end of the game he said (not his exact words but pretty close) That he liked the pressure that didnt effect him at all but hurt their team that much more when he actually hit the shot.

First 2 games at Tulsa 66ers. Theyre a decent team and our guys were just getting to know each other better so i'll be happy with going 1-1. Once again Gavin was the best player on the court. DJ is still pretty good but i just got a thing for G.

Dec 1st - at LA D-Fenders, (Win!) Overall 3-1.
This was really Dontell's breakout game for the season. He controled the entire time. Not really sure why it was so close. LA had not aquired Pruitt yet so we should of beat them by more. Dre had an off night but in the end it did not matter because DJ is AMAZING and we won the game on his last second jumper. It was a really fun game to watch. If your not doing the same go now!!! - They're all FREE on the D-League's site. OH. so i guess after looking at La's schedule they're a pretty decent

Dec 3&5th at bakersfield. Win X2!~ Overall 4-1. #2 in the league behind undefeated Iowa.
Bakersfield. sucks. They have the worst record in the league at 1-9. I like the new aquirement of Tyrelle Blair. He gave them alot of energy. O. Green is a legit player. Way good. Dre is also amazing. He just keeps improving. (little known fact, during the flash's first year andre was the last player's name that i knew. Big known fact, Dre is one of the nicest dudes you'll ever meet. Ever. He is a stud.) Dre's stats in Bakersfield. 47 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assist (i think). Ya um he shot 9/16 from 3 point land during these games. Great player. Keep it up.

Monday Dec 7th. The first ever home game of the season. Win!!!! 5-1.
The fans (that stayed until the end) got a real treat. We stormed back from 20 down to win the game. (they would return the favor two weeks later. One of the best games in flash history to watch. Well worth going. Dre had an off night (just 1/9 3pts).... Sooooo happy after this game.

Dec11 :( we lost. 5-2.
Desmond Farmar is really good. He will get a call up this year if he keeps his game at the level where it is right now. We really should of won. Its all my fault. I wore my "Mad Boom Tho" <<< http://www.toomuchrodbenson.com/newgear/newgear.html the entire bighorns team was real cool to me. we talked the entire 2 hours before the game... I almost went to lunch with MR. Benson him self... They got real hyped up and had more energy. Reno has potential.

Dec 14. The 3rd quarter Dunk Fest. W!~ 6-2 (#1 in the west.)
Everyone one loves it when you beat your rivals. This game was huge. Carlos Wheeler has really improved. He does not take any more crazy shots and puts alot of focus into his game. Carlos has some dunk titles from overseas. New guy Jordan Brady can put it down as well. (3 of the top 10 plays from this week belonged to the Flash Youtube - Top 10 NBDL Plays The only thing we need to work on is Los's landing, haha, he fell over after that monster "jordan-esk" dunk. ha, im still laughing. Stil a great victory.

Dec 20 & 22. 0-W's... 2-L's no bueno.
I dont really want to talk about this first game i watched the first 3 quarters, we were up by 22 so i just had it on in the background and we blew it. I couldnt help with the last 6+ minutes. A terrible loss. im going to have to talk to coach jones this weekend about that lost. Terrible. I cant believe that happened. AHHHH! How'd we blow that? The 2nd game we allowed a 15-0 run between the 7&3 minute mark of the 4th quarter (thanks to the play-by-play for that i slept through the game...) we really got to step it up.

So now we're 6-4. That seems really bad to me but its really not. We currently stand at 2nd place in the west (4th overall) We have 2 games in Boise, Idaho this weekend. YES! i will be driving up for them. These two games will be huge. The difference 1/6 of a ranking... (6-6 (.500) (3/6) vs 8-4 (4/6 w's)... oh well no need for that my brain is complecated when it comes to math and most people dont understand me... Anyways we have to win!!!!!!!! and we will, dont worry.

Kevin Kruger - (Italy) is playing for the Original Marines Napoli they are currently off to a 0-4 start. K2 scored 15 points in his first game of the season and since has not surpassed 3. Over the last three games he has shot a miserable 1/16 <-- yes thats 16 not 6, from three point land. Plays on the same team as Damon Jones (Former Milwaukee Buck)

Lamar Rice - (Japan) is playing for the Hitachi Sunrockers. He scored a season high 21 points against Hokkaido on 10/18 shooting. Averaging 12.5 points in 17.2 minutes through 12 games, the team is 7-5, having lost 3 of the last four. He is the only black man on the team, the only non japanese guy to be exact... wait there is one bald dude named Tyler smith...

John Millsap - (Mexico) is playing for the Bucaneros de Campeche. He is doing really well there averaging just under 36 minutes per game, with over 23 points per game. John has made 23 three point field goals in just eleven games.

Ronald Dupree - (Germany) is playing for Telekom Baskets Bonn, the team is heavily sponsored by T-mobile. So much that the jerseys are pink and white covered with fifty T-mobile logos each! Plays on the same team as Jared Jordan (Former RGV Viper)

Britton Johnsen - (Greece) is playing for Panellinios Athens. He scored 21 points in the first game... The team has played just two games this season. They are 0-2... or maybe they are 3-0??? im not really sure.

There are three ways that a player can earn a chance on a D-League Training Camp roster...

Allocations: Teams can also be awarded allocation players. These are typically players with significant local or player appeal to that market, they will fill more seats. Example: Lee Cummard was allocated to Utah Flash after playing for the Brigham Young University Cougars or Jeff Horner was assigned to the Iowa Energy after playing for the University of Iowa Hawkeyes.

Draft: Players who sign a contract with the NBA D-League are eligible for the NBA D-League draft, which takes place prior to the start of each season. Example: Kevin Goffney.

Returning Players: Teams can invite a limited number of players back who played for that respective club during the previous season. Example: Andre Ingram.

Great breakdown, I have a couple thoughts. Where are Nevill and Cummard? I don't think the Flash are going to cut these guys they are both solid players and them having local ties definitely helps fill the seats.
With the pick of Siler in the first round I think that will mean the end of James Lang in a Flash uniform.
I would also predict Cummard over Goffney or LaRoche.
Doubtful Jackson comes back and Dupree might go overseas after not getting a call-up all last season.
Are you thinking the Flash will get any assigned players?

Brian Jackson:
Has already played 179 games in the Dleague (over 4 years) Hes had some injures that kept him off out a few games. Id say its about a 20% chance that he returns to the league. he knows by now that he most likely will not make it to the nba anytime soon.

Nevill & Cummard:
I broke them down on the post below. If you remember from last year the flash had Mike Hall (from BYU) allocated. He was a great player in college, and dominated at the open tryouts but this is a really competitive league. The are great players and would bring a few more people to the games but i doubt that they make the final cut (remember we only get to keep 10 players and 6 are returning all have 85+% chance of returning). Nevill is very doubtful to make the team because we already have 3 1/2 centers (lang, wheeler, siler & davis). As far as Cummard getting the spot over Goffney or LaRouche im not really sure, they will have to fight it out on the court. Ill be at the Preseason game in burley on the 23rd so ill be able to see how they compare. Coaches were really praising laroche about how his former coach said that he would out hustle everyone...

Lang: He is a really great player (drafted straight to the nba from hs the same year as lebron) the first year with the flash he was very dominate but for some reason his stats went way down. I doubt that we would just drop him because of how much of a Dleague vet he is. Possibility of a trade including him: 14.02%

Dupree: Go overseas because he didnt get called up??? Dupree has played in the nba for 5 or 6 years so he has plenty of money (the main reason to go to europe) He will most likely come back for the chance to win a championship/show how good his is to all the scouts. (73.8% chance)

possible assigned players:

Othello Hunter- was assigned to anaheim last year for 3 games. Hasnt played a minute yet (hawks are currently 4-1.) possibly of him wearing a flash uniform for 1+ game= 8.15%

Jeff Teague- scored 19 points in his first nba (preseason) game, the folks in atl seem to like him. possibility of him wearing a flash uni: 0.42%

Kosta Koufos- Played for the flash in 11 games, would of played in the playoffs (4 more games) if it wernt for a confusion in the rules. Hasnt played much for the flash this year. (hes only been playing 3 min a game). Chance Kosta goes to the flash for 1+ game: 67.02%

Coach Jerry Sloan said about kosta being sent to the flash last year... "But, you know, these young guys have got to improve. They can't improve sitting there on the bench all the time — and our practices, they're not very tough practices right now."

Eric Maynor- Is a rookie, sloan doesnt use rookies much. He has played 6 minutes in 5 games. Price is playing a solid 13 minutes per game to back up D-will. Remember that the jazz still have korver and miles that are healing from injuries. The jazz are big believers in the D-League, especially because they are really close. Possibility that Maynor gets assigned to the flash for at least one game: 85.24%

Wes Matthews- has been a real suprise to everyone. He had a breakout game yesterday vs san antonio (on TNT) played 24 minutes scoring 12 points. Wes won the spot over Dupree. I like this kid but remember that he is still a rookie. Future Flash star? 21.023%

Garret Siler:
Was the very last guy cut by the Atlanta Hawks this year. Coach Jones got to take a look at him when he went out to Atlanta. Flash staff are very excited about this pick. Greatly reccomended by Atlanta that we should get him. Hopefully our relationship grows because of this... He is a 7 foot center with great strenght and size. Most people are impressive by the fact that he runs the floor very well and has good footwork. Does not fatigue as fast as one would expect. "If he catches a defender on his back he is pretty much unstoppable because of his wide base and strength" He is able to finish plays with big dunks, especially off fast breaks.

Orien Greene:
Won the Defensive Player of the Year award his senior season in the Sun Belt Conference with his aggressive play. Greene was drafted in 2005 NBA Draft with the 53rd overall pick by the Boston Celtics. He has played 128 games in the NBA (Starting 7) Played for Boston, Indiana and Sacramento.

Jason Richards:
Attended a Utah Jazz Predraft tryout. he likes to slash to the basket and while he likes to drive right, he shows the ability to take the ball to the basket with either hand. Shoots the ball very well (41%). He is a pure point guard who led the NCAA in assists and was second in assist/turnover ratio. Was the #2 guy behind Stephen Curry on Davidsons ncaa tournament run.

Joe Darger: Has 15 siblings!!!

Travis Holmes: Played in a career 116 games at VMI averaging 14.9 points and 5.1 rebounds. Travis Holmes joined his brother among the All-Conference selections, as he earned a spot among the conference's Second Team honorees. Ranked fourth in Big South Conference in free-throw percentage after his junior year. Had a high of eight steals in win over William & Mary.

Alain LaRoche: Played in the EuroLeague Last year. Shot 68.4% <---HOLY COW!!! with 15+ ppg and 6.4 rebounds. Scored a career-high (in the euro league) 38 points vs LrNMKY. Check out this highlight video of his (not in english sorry) Jordan Brady: Earned First Team All-Independent honors ... named NCAA Division I Defensive Player of the Year. His 8.4 rebounds per game tied a school single-season rebounding record. Served an LDS church mission to the Philippines. parents are Jon and Mary. :)

It's official Luke Nevill (UofU) and Lee Cummard (BYU) are putting aside their differences and playing for the Flash this year. " -Brandt Andersen

Luke Nevill who played for the University of Utah (40 min north of orem) and Lee Cummard (Brigham Young University 5 min south) who were rivals last year are combining forces and attempting to join for the Utah Flash. We are still not sure if they will make it, last year former cougar Mike Hall dominated at tryouts only to be cut after not playing a single minute during the preseason game.

Lee Cummard (BYU) - Was the 2008 MWC Co-Player of the Year (along with former flash and current boston celtics star JR Giddens) and earned All-MWC First Team for the 3rd time. During the 3 years he was on the All-MWC First Team he helped the cougars to 3 MWC championships. As a senior he averaged 16.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists while shooting .517 from the field, .387 from downtown and .842 from the free throw line. Yes he was the Team Captain for the Cougars.

Luke Nevill (University Of Utah) - IS FREAKING 7'2... LOOK AT THE PICTURE ABOVE!!! HE CAN PROBABLY TOUCH THE RIM WITH OUT JUMPING (dont think he has much hops anyways.) He played along side Lebron James during the preseason (scored 11 points in 4 games) but was cut (along with Russell Robinson and not Coby Karl) other than that i dont know much about him. He led the utes to the 2nd round of the ncaa tournament. You can read his bio here.

Andre ingram- Round 7, Pick 10 (94th overall in 07)
Ya, the captain of the NBA D-League Champion runner-up didnt get picked until the seventh round. A grand total of 93 players were taken before the Utah flash selected Dre, who had just graduated from American University (the same university Dr. Bones went to). He played in all 50 games for the us in his first season. Last season he averaged 10.4 points per game. Was 2nd in the league shooting 475 from the 3 point line last season behind Lamar Butler (featured on Si)

Carlos Wheeler- Round 4 Pick 8 (56 overall in 08)
Carlos is a very well know player overseas as he led his team to a championship season. He is a very energetic player. Check out this video. it tells it all.

Gary Hill-Thomas- Round 9 Pick 10 (122nd overall in 07)
G-Hill had already played in the league with the Roanoke Dazzle the year before we drafted him. finally with the one hundred and twenty second pick in the oh-eight draft we nabbed him. The guard from Nevada shot a 53% for fg. Last year he would return to his home town to play for the Reno Bighorns. He owns his own business, a sports clothing apparel line called Gladiator Athletics.

After his junior year he attended the Nike All-American Camp and was ranked the 13th-best forward.

Davis finished his career as Northeastern's 14th all-time leading scorer and ninth leading rebounder with 1,185 points and 757 rebounds. He blocked 170 shots in his career, the second-most in Northeastern's history. Davis never missed a game in his career, playing in 123 contests and starting 102.

Jon from RU says: His main skill is his shot-blocking, and he's very good at it.

Bennett was amazing last year with the flash in utah. His best game was on January 30th at the Reno Bighorns where he recorded NBADL career highs in Points (20), Rebounds (8), and Blocks (4). Yes i watched that game on futurecast.

Although Bennett has not had much playing time with the Nets this preseason but he is making the most of what they give him, averaging 12 offensive rebounds per 48 minutes played.

During his last game against the New York Knicks Davis had the greatest +/- of the entire nets team (+6).

If things don't work out with the Nets, would you be open to returning to
the NBA D-League to further develop your game?

"I definitely would be open to returning to Utah for another season. Right now I'm taking everything one day at a time, because getting the invite to come play here happened so fast. My first year in the D-League was a great experience, we won our division and went on to make it to the Finals. The whole year was a good experience for me so I'm open to coming back."

Bryan Russell V.S. Michael Jordan $100,100.00 challenge

LEHI, Utah -- The owner of the Utah Jazz's NBA Development League team wants to see Michael Jordan go 1-on-1 against Bryon Russell one more time.

Brandt Andersen is offering a $100,000 donation to the charity of the winner's choice if he can get Jordan and Russell to play a game of 21.

Jordan's jumper over Russell in Game 6 of the 1998 NBA finals gave the Chicago Bulls a 4-2 series win over Utah. Jazz fans still insist Jordan pushed off Russell.

During Jordan's Hall of Fame speech, he said he was motivated by Russell's trash talk toward him during his first retirement.

Andersen says he has spoken to Russell and left a message for Jordan through a mutual friend. Andersen's suggestion: Jordan vs. Russell during halftime of the Utah Flash's home opener.

If you, or someone else you know dont know very much about the NBA Development league its not to late to get started. You can get tickets for really cheap, and not for crap seats. Last year the Utah flash had a promotion, a pair of season tickets (4 rows behind the basket) for just $99 total!

Another D-Leaguer signs overseas

Breaking news from close to home. Flash point guard Kevin Kruger has signed a 1 year contract with a team in Naples, Italy. This is the same team that Lance Allred also signed with.

NSB Napoli announced the agreement with Kevin Kruger (188-G-83, college: UNLV). He played last season with Utah Flash (D-League), scoring 13 ppg in 24 games with a season high of 24 points and reaching the Finals. At the beginning of last season, he shortly played with PBC Lukoil Akademik Sophia (Bulgaria-NBL), only 2 games with 13.5 ppg. During his college career(118 games with Arizona St. and UNLV with 11.3 ppg), he won Three-Point Shootout at the Florida-Georgia All-Star Game -03. His father is UNLV coach Lon Kruger (400 win in his career)

A Lil Breakdown of the Utah Flash Season.

I have put together a little breakdown of the utah flash season for the 09-10 season. This has to be the weirdest schedule in the history of professional sports. It is totally random for every team. We cant tell much because we dont know who will be on who's team but im really hoping that reno is terrible because we play them 10 times. think about it this way, if we beat reno every time (10-0) and we win 1/4 games against other teams (10/40) we are a .400 team, which is a playoff team probably...

(who i get to see because im crazy and will drive up to boise for the showcase). Im still not sure about this schedule? how ever they came up with it is wacked up!!! look at Idaho and Reno (the two closest teams) we play them a total of 18 times (36% of the season) then look at the six teams that are the farthest away, we play them 5 times (all at home)

Games of the Year (or games it think will be cool)

November 27th @Tulsa: Yes this is the day that i reported would be the first game of the season... This game will be a must watch on NBA Futurecast (yes its still free) Im hoping that we have a preseason game in Burley or somewhere so i can see the guys before hand.
December 7th VS-Dakota: This game is HUGE!!! why? duh its the first game of the year in utah, expect it to be loud and expect me to be doing something crazy! They should be looking for revenge seeing we knocked them out of the playoffs.
December 26th&28th @Idaho: Yahoo!!! i am so excited for this game, when i first saw it i thought that it was a sat/sun game but now i realise that it is not... Yes i guarantee that i will be at these games. I can also guarantee that i am going to freeze my but off, yes i will sleep in my car again. but its totally worth it.
March 6th VS-Springfield: This is the very first game vs the newly added franchise led by head coach Dee Brown (Former Celtic Dunk Champ)
April 3rd @Austin: The Season Finale

I wanted to help you get more in depth with this schedule so here is a little more of what i have found.

The Flash's Home Schedule... What days do we have the most games on?
Monday- 4
Tuesday- 2
Wednesday- 5
Thursday- 1
Friday- 7
Saturday- 5
Sunday- 0 {Duh :)}

I think this is another smart move by the flash, weekend are when we have the biggest croud becuase everyone has work off. Monday is also a smart day because it is family night and the flash are a very family friendly place.

Looking at Back-to-backs

The Flash have Ten Back to backs including three in the month of february ( a month which they only play 8 games).. November-1 December-0 January-2 February-3 March-3 April-1

Another thing you may notice is that when the flash have a road game they hardly ever play just one game and then fly home. (the only time we do this is Feb. 5/6th & 26/27th and those games we have a home game either the day before or after.) Road trips. November- (to start the season) we have a 5 game road trip. then a 4 game trip (during xmas) and four more double headers in the last bit of the season.

The schedule is in its final draft and should come out real soon! Because this is the Dleague you expect that alot of things will change, we already found out that brent petway (via twitter @airgeorgia) now i have learned that big man Carlos Wheeler will also be leaving. Other than that there is not much news going around.

The Boston Globe reports the Celtics are attempting to trade Pruitt since the team is leaning toward waiving the point guard if no deal materializes. The newspaper also reports Pruitt is unlikely to be used as part of a sign-and-trade deal involving Indiana guard Marquis Daniels, since the Pacers have three point guards already.

Also (there is 0% chance of this happening) according to this article in the newyorktimes the new jerseynets are for sale.... Could Brandt be on the move? (NOPE)

Ronald Dupree is playing for the Denver Nuggets.
-In two games so far he has scored 24 points (2nd to only colby karl) and grabbed 7 rebounds.

Andre Ingram played for the Utah Jazz
-played a total of 3 games. Most impressive in the last game where he scored 11 points including 3 3-pointers.

Kevin Kruger also played for the Utah Jazz
-3rd in scoring. scored a single game high of 16 points.

James Lang is playing for the the Washington Wizards but its yet to apear.

JR Giddens is still with the Boston Celtics.
-He is Averaging 11,4,2 Single game high of 17. (Bill Walker is AVG 12,5,1)

Morris Almond is playing for the New York Knicks
-He leads the team in scoring (duh!) with 28 points in 2 games including 5/11 3-pointers.
--Rumor is that the Knicks will sign him after summerleague.

Maybe you saw this article by Neil Warner of the Deseret News about the flash possibly moving to the Ecenter or SLCC. My sources told me this was false and team owner Brandt Andersen. The Flash will remain at UVU for atleast 4 years.

Assistant Coach Dale Osbourne is no longer with the team as he has signed a deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

This is not official yet but the word on the street is that the two affiliates for the flash next year are going to be the Utah Jazz and... the Atlanta Hawks!!!!!!! They belonged to the Anaheim Arsenal last year. Yup thats it breaking new comes to you here first...

Its been a long time since i posted last, im sorry its been alot of different things like school was ending and i was trying to get my one bad grade up. (ended with a 3.96 Dang so close!!!) Also my computer has been having some problems but i promise this post will make up for me slacking.

Lets start with the latest news about all the flash players.

According to Ridiculous Upside the Dakota Wizards thought about hiring Dale Osbourne (Flash Assistant Coach as their new head coach) but that only lasted a couple hours and they are looking at a 3 other guys alot closer. but thats good cause dale is awesome and i really want him to stay here.

The Utah Flash Factory is hosting the "Summer of Hoops Camp" it starts next monday and its still not late to sign up. You can sign up at the door or online at Utahflashfactory.com OurSportsCentral.com is reporting that players and coaches will be helping out but the flash's twitter account check em out @utahflashtweet

Ronnie Price is not having his camp at the flash factory this year. I dont think he is even having one at all... not sure.

According to ESPN kyrylo fesenko could sign with the jazz for 870k or if not he would most likely go to Sacramento or Okalahoma City... Either way he wont be in a flash uniform next year cause he is in his 3rd year of the NBA.

Former Idaho Stamped and NBDL MVP now Idaho's Assistant coach is being looked at by the New Orleans hornets. He is one of the two guys they are really looking at to fill a Assistant coaching spot. Its also been reported by ru that he could be going to one of the new dleague teams in the east.

James Lang is going to be playing in the NBA Summer League for a team in the Orlando Summer League. The team will be announced shortly so stay tuned. (its a team in orlando so no its not the dleague team)

The Tulsa 66ers are the first team in Dleague history to put wallpapers up on there site.

Her youngest son, Kosta, is living his dream at all of 20 years old, having finished his rookie season with the Jazz. But he didn't reach the NBA simply because he was blessed to be 7 feet tall, even if he did pray for height when he was younger.

Instead, Kosta poured himself into basketball with a dedication like few others following the death of his father when Kosta was 9.

Chapter Two: Brian Jackson

The transaction from the college game to the NBA Development League is a big change for most players. In four years at Oregon State University, as a Beaver, Brian Jackson played a total of 107 games. He averaged 12 points and shot a high 45% fg shooting. On February 3, 2003 - Brian Jackson Named Pac-10 Player of the Week.

After not getting drafted he decided to go to the NBDL where he joined the Arkansas Rimrockers. This was the first year for Arkansas also, as they had just joined the league. They won the ABA championship the year before. He would play 89 games there alongside guys like Jamario Moon (Dunk Contest Contestent) and our very own James Lang. Brian stuck to his high shooting percentage shooting 43% both years he was there. He was the only player to score 1,000+ points in the teams short history, as they folded the year after.

"With the 3rd pick in the 2007 NBA Development League Draft the Utah Flash select 6'9" Forward from Oregon State, Brian Jackson..." Jackson was the first player to join the Utah Flash. And we are glad he is here. Brian is known as the player who does all the little things that help a team win, but seldom have those things shown up in a box score. Although Brian Jackson has not yet been called up to the NBA he has served some time with the Cleveland Cavaliers...

The Iranian Basketball Federation has invited the Utah Flash of the National Basketball Association Developmental League to play a few games in Tehran, NBA Commissioner David Stern said.

Brandt: Chances are i am heading to Iran
Friend: What? Why?
Brandt: Iran has invited the Flash to play games in Iran in two weeks and I am going with the team....

According to my sources Flash Point Guard Kevin Kruger will again be playing with the Utah Jazz Summer League Team along side Kosta Koufos and possibly Fes & Mo.

If you were up at 6:35 am this morning you would be able to hear the guys on 1320 Kfan saying

"Do you wanna know who the second string point guard for the Jazz will be next year, not Brevin Knight, and its not Ronnie Price, the man to back up Deron Williams is going to be Kevin Kruger

Sounds like they really like him. Coach Jerry Sloan was at a couple of the Flash games including a playoff game. Kruger had 23-6-6 when sloan was watching. maybe, it could happen.

Although this franchise has only been here for a short while, just 2 years, we have seen alot of great basketball. Here are the top 10 players that had the biggest impact on the Utah Flash.

1. Michael Cuffee - Averaged 9.9 points per game in just 17 games. Made 3 game winning 3-pointers. Kevin Lyde denied one by hitting a 18 foot turnaround jumper the last second of the inauguration game. Traded for Britton Johnson who did crap then went to Europe a week later.

2. Morris Almond - Led the D-League in scoring around 25 points. Won the 2008 Impact Player of the Year. Owns the NBDL record for most points scored in a single game with 53.

3. Dontell Jefferson - Averaged 18.5 Points, 4.9 Rebounds, 5.4 Assist. Know in the D-League for his superior defense. Was the very first Gatorade Call-up in Flash history thanks to the Charlotte Bobcats.

4. Brian Hamilton - Known for his defense, led the D-League in steals with 3.2 a game, also had 10.8 ppg and 5.6 rpg. Came to the Flash after attending the try-outs. Was invited to the New Jersey Nets summer camp after the season. Was an extremely hard worker.

5. Ronald Dupree - Helped the Flash to the NBA Development League Finals. After starting the season 10-11, we acquired Dupree from Tulsa finishing up the year going 24-11. Averaged 16.2 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per game. Hit the game winning layup in the 25.2 second replay.

I really love the way Dee Brown plays basketball. I have watched him since he were playing at Illinois with D-will and Luther. Then got drafted by the Utah Jazz. He was a great player there and it was so sad to see him go. In the beginning of this year he signed with the Washington Wizards. At the highest level of basketball, the NBA, he had multiple opportunities to start. A couple days after being dropped the Phoenix Suns held a "tryout" for there 13th spot. Darrell Armstrong, Eddie Gill, Troy Hudson, Walker Russell Jr., and Damon Stoudamire were among the guys who tried out with Dee. He got the spot and after a 10 day contract decided to go overseas rather than the NBA Development League.

Darrell Armstrong: 14 year NBA veteran, Won 6th man award and most improved player.

Troy Hudson: Played for the Utah Jazz his rookie year, the next year he went and played for the Sioux Falls SkyForce then went on to play for 9 more years in the NBA.

Eddie Gill: Was the 1st overall selection in the D-League draft last year. Led the Colorado 14ers to the Championship.

A Tough Road Ahead

We were down 25 in the 2nd quarter and i decided it was time for a change so i took off my socks (long dleague socks) and by Andre Ingram Duct tape jersey. Somehow we fought our way back. Colorado scored 80 points in the first half alone!!! After Eddie Gill missed 1/2 free throws we had the ball wit 22.8 seconds to go... Coach planned for kruger to wait tell 8 seconds then give the ball to Dupree. Colorado fought him so kruger had nothing to do but put up the shot, it didnt look like he really wanted to be the guy with the oppertunity to win game 1 of the finals. It was so close but some how it missed. In OT we got off to an early 3 points ahead of colorado.... Then we had 4 turnovers in the last 4 minutes a couple missed shots, luckly we had a few tip-ins also, thanks Wheeler!!! Once again down 3. 11 seconds left and kruger turns it over, no one is thinking so they let colorado run down the court finally Dre who was chasing him catches him and we get a foul. down 5 with 6 seconds left. its over :( he makes both the freethrows. ball in to dupree and he does a couple ball fakes and misses a 3 at the buzzer. we lose :( :( :( game 2 is on friday and game 3 is on monday. i will watch them on futurecast but i cant go cause i didnt get work off on saturday... :(

We are as close as the jazz ever got to winning a championship. All we need is 2 more wins. The jazz lost 4-2 both times in the finals... I know we can do it! We will bring the trophy home!

Giddens had 21 & 17!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think we should of drove with the final posession of the game, giving it to the main guy with 20 seconds left not trying to with 8... im not a pro just a fan so maybe thats not good? but i think itd work out better... For those of you who dont watch futurecast and only go to the games have a good summer!!!!

We just beat the jam. the game was really close until the last 6 minutes when we decided to pull away. Nothing really stuck out to me. Kosta didnt have that good of game, neither of the 2 jazz players had much time, both played less than half the game. jr was off tonight. trey and byars shot alot combined for 11/32 dang thats 34%!!! our team shot 48%. we end up winning the game by 13!

next game is on monday @ 7pm

Playoff Preview: #2 Utah Flash vs. #8 Bakersfield Jam

Utah Flash vs Bakersfield Jam We won the west division while bakersfield finished 3rd in the same divison just 5 games behind. This will be another on of the great coaching matchup of the playoffs, second year head coach who led the flash to a record of 24-26 last year Brad Jones, and the head coach of the Bakersfield Jam, Scott Roth who played right here in Utah for the Jazz in the late 80's and later on went to the Mavs to start his assistant coaching career.
The flash won the regular season meetings between these two teams 4-2, but I'm not putting much stock in those outcomes as the two losses came in first five games of the year and we have aquired many new faces including Morris Almond, Kosta Koufos, Ronald Dupree, Kevin Kruger and James Lang...

Utah

The possible starters:

Kevin Kruger has played spectacular since taking over Dontell Jefferson's role, who got called up for the rest of the season by the Charlotte Bobcats. He joined the team in the middle of the season after spending a few months in Europe earning a few extra pounds of cash. He carried the flash almost alone in the last regular season game vs the 5th seed Idaho Stampede, scoring 17 of the first 40 points in the game for the flash.

Morris Almond is one of the best scorers in the game, and can drive like nothing you have ever seen. He doesn't have a lot on defense so look for the Jam to really go at. He was out the last 3 games with a sore back but should be good for tomorrow. Mo scored his 1,000th point as a member as the flash last month vs Erie.

JR Giddens is Utah's designated energy guy. He collected five blocks the first time these two teams met in December. He has averaged 22 points, along with 5 rebounds, five assist and over 2 blocks a game during the season vs the Jam. JR is currently has the best shooting percentage for 2 point shots out of anyone in the playoffs at 60.8%, Courney Sims is just behind at 60.5%

Ronald Dupree has made the biggest impact on the Flash this season. Since he was acquired by the flash on January 20th the flash have gone from a sub .500 team (9-10) to one of the top teams in the league. Since he has arrived we are 23-8 (.741)

The bench:

I don't know who his going to step up as the big guy from the bench this game, i could possibly be Andre Ingram, the best 3pt shooter in the playoffs at 47%. The two games we lost to the jam Dre shot just 3/10 with a total of 8 points. Dre has also been converting to a point guard which has really expanded his game... Another name to keep an eye at is Carlos Wheeler sometimes he makes some funny decisions but other times he is our best player, eg the blowout in reno earlier this year. I still wont expect much of him because he's never scored more that 10 against the jam this year. Just make sure he is down low or he will be throwing up perimeter shots that he doesn't make. (.167) for 3's. On another note Ryan Diggs still has not made a 3 at home all year!

Bakersfield

The possible starters:

Mateen Cleaves dont really know much about him. He seems to be all random also in five games against utah this year he's scored 2,2,8,13,&21... He has 12 double doubles this year... He has been playing in the D-League for 4 years. Lowered his turnovers per game from 4 1/3 last year to just 3 this year. Averages 13 points a game for them

Trey Johnson was called up by the Cleveland Cavaliers earlier in the year. He was also a member of the 2008-09 ALL-NBA DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE SECOND TEAM

Derrick Byars was draining 3s all season long fighing with Andre Ingram at the top for 3pt% but in the last ten games he is just 5-38 (.132). If he can make a few buckets dont expect them to move on to the next round.

Justin Reed is not related to D-league president Dan Reed

Nick Lewis is a very solid big man who's seen some time in the NBA. He's a decent rebounder but probably not a good enough one to compete much with guys like Dwight Howard in that area, on other not no one is... He will really need to step it up as i suspect Flash Coach Brad Jones will run the entire team at him like last game.

The bench:

I know nothing about their bench... Last time we met the bench had just 8 points and shot 0 free-throws. (taken from ru but i edited it a lil)

As you know by now Dontell got signed by the Charlotte Bobcats. It is estimated that he will be making around $100,000 thats more than he made in all 3 years with the D-league. (2 years with Dakota before this year before joining the flash from a sign and trade during the nbdl draft)... He has also recieved 4 jerseys. Home, Away, Alternate and becasue he got lucky and signed at just the right time he gets a 4th, the nba green "recycle" jersey! I only own one (away jersey) but i think that i may be one of the select few to have that prevlage

The flash played the rematch of december 26th game... in the entire game kevin kruger played only 3 seconds of the 48 minutes. Ronald Dupree, who in my last post said was our best players only played 25 seconds, got the ball and drove for a buzzer-beating layup and the flash won! that was the quickest game ever. around 2 minutes... then we killed the 14ers in the next game by like 15 points... we need to win tomorrow for home court...or...

No one helped us out at all today, erie lost to austin after a blocked layup at the last second, Idaho burned bakersfield. The only help at all was Colordado putting up 155 points to abolish the t-birds. That means the worst spot we can get is 6th, which means nothing at all cause you get to pick who you play.

We are now 19-1 when we score 104+ (i had my savings account on jr last game and he blew it!) im happy that even though dupree, our best player, had a bad day (2/11). JR and Kosta got double doubles his 4th of the year 2nd vs anaheim. that was there final game of the history of the anaheim franchise. Dre had 19. and we won. an amazing birthday present.

I think E. Although there are many great coaches in the NBA Development league i think that our main man should get the award. Coach Brad Jones is most deserving of the Dennis Johnson Coach of the Year Award.

How he got here.

Jones has scouted for the Jazz since 2001. Jones was associate athletics director and head men’s basketball coach at Lambuth University in Jackson, Tenn where he earned two Mid-South Conference titles, was twice named conference Coach of the Year, coached five consecutive seasons with 20+ wins, and led the team to its first national tournament appearance in school history.

What has he done this year for us?

Improved the flash from a sub .500 team with no post season to a .600+ team.

Went from 3rd in the west divison to the top.

Over 10 different starting lineups this season.

Over 20 different people have dressed in flash uniform this year.

Helped improve many players. example: andre ingram last year 6pts 1reb 1ast, now 11pts 4reb 2ast & the 3rd best 3pt shooter (.458) in the league!

A winning record on the road (2nd best in the league), something most teams in utah cant do...

So the flash played the d-fenders this morning and normally there is around 900 fans at there games but they were offering enterence to the game for free... they broke the attendance record there was around 2,500 screaming basketball fans that all came for a great game. The first five minutes everyone played like crap, excluding Giddens who kept us from being blown out in the first quarter... Ingram came in and hit 5/6 3's he is now shooting 48% from the 3pt line... No one had many assist and we looked real bad out there. ended up losing the game by only 11.

Luckly Albaquerque, Iowa, and Sioux falls all lost so we are still in the top few for the playoff race. Were tied with Idaho. Its a must win vs LA and Anaheim, our next two games, if we want a legit chance of winning the division. If we dont win the division we wont get homecourt, most likely playing Idaho in the first round, ok for me, bad for "normal" Flash fans...

I am so happy that we didnt choose heros cause i would be a stampede fan and this blog would not exist.... You never know if the team name was good. Alot of times you may regret a decision that you have made. What if the fans chose the Dyno's?

Charlie Villanueva got in trouble for getting on twitter during halftime of the Milwakee Bucks game. Shaq can do what ever including getting on twitter according to his coach as long as he gets 25 & 10...

But what would the team think if the announcer was on other websites during the game??? During the second quarter of the Bakersfield v Utah game I posted a comment on ridiculousupside.com that said: This announcer is so annoying, "looks good, is good" Shut up!... I guess that the owner of the site (RU) disagrees with me, cause i got banned, he says it every other minute. but the announcer was on the site and saw my post, guess what the rest of the game he didnt say it once! I was rather impressed with all the stuff he talked about including bringing up big news, like Anaheim moving to Massachusetts next season... Also alot of numbers and stuff.

It was a great game bakersfield scored 60 first half points and were up by double digits the entire time until the jam's main point guard got his 5th foul and had to go out of the game with around 5 minutes left in the 3rd. Then ronald dupree stepped it up big time along with mo, kosta and JR to make a big come back, coach jones didnt have to break his drawing board like last time we went to bakersfield and lost by 40. We maintained the lead and won the game by 16, 108-92!!!

We now have a 1/2 game lead on idaho with just 8 games left...
With less that 4 minutes left in the game the announcer said about the utah flash "this is a team that could go all the way..."

Dontell Jefferson was signed to the charlotte bobcats for a 10 day contract, then a second. he only appeared in one game with still not playing even on minute but coach must really love him because he has been signed for the rest of the year. He will also be playing for the bobcats in the summer league, most likely in orlando...

We play 3 games in the nex 4 days...

Before this game i thought that the main matchup would be between Andre ingram and Trey Johnson... They are both in the top 6 for 3pt %... dre only took 4 shots the entire game... The big part for him was his Defense... With the 4th quarter counting down andre stepped up his D greatly. He made Trey give 120% the entire time. After Dre went out trey was so tired that the jam never gave him the ball hardly he just sat there...

Both teams had one thing in mind to attack a single player. For the Flash it was attacking at the post especially Nick Lewis (center, played at the rmr for the Dleague team.) he is not that great at d. i sit behind the team every game so i can hear coach jones yell at all the players. He told them everytime in the first quarter to give it down low to James and the other big men.

The flash listen'd to him and they killed the Jam with points in the paint 60-32 (dont have the exact numbers but those are close)... Just found the exact 58-36! that was a big part of why the flash won this game...

On the opposite end to the court bakersfield went at Morris Almond 60% of the time when he was in. 30 minutes of the game. Mo really needs to learn the flash Defense-ive style and stuff cause he didnt rotate and all that crap that he should of... They got at him good scored almost 100 points...

If you had the chance to watch the game live, or futurecast, not sure if it was working... take a look at flash bench point guard Ryan Diggs he has a really nice shot and alot of potential. If you remember andre last year not much going on, averaged 5 points a game and now he has improve and learned much and look at dre this year he is in the top 5 for 3pt% and averages around 12...

As first reported by ridiculousupside.com Dontell Jefferson #11 will be wearing a new number 2! he has just been signed to a 10 day contract. They play 6 games in that span so he should get a minute or two of playing time... Sean May, who hasnt played much lately because of injury (i think) last game he played 2 minutes or so... dontell was listed as inactive in the game vs the rockets...
They play the timberwolves tonight (saturday) so he has a big chance of getting some time...

Andre Ingram's American University defeated holy cross in the patriot league finals to get an automatic bid in the ncaa tournament... they beat h.c. by 16 and are the only team from the D.C. are likely to get a birth.. No cinderella year for George Mason...

Road game # 4 & 5 in the books...

I just got back from my amazing trip of 791 miles to Boise Idaho. I arrived in boise around 4. Tour'd around town and saw some cool stuff... I went to the famous blue football field that the boise state football team plays on. I went to Quest Arena (where the Stampede play) they dont open the door until 6 oclock and i was there just for that. I was the first fan through the door. I ran down to watch the team warm up... Kruger was the first one to see me and he looked a little supprise. All the players said hi to me and the coaches let me be the rebounder for them. Andre Ingram was not supprised one bit.

The game began doing real bad we were down by like ten... We had a huge 3rd uarter and yeah we won the game!!! I was so happy. I walked around aton before, during half time, and after the game to show off my duct tape jersey. Everyone of the idaho fans was amazed. Even the staff thought it was real cool... The stampedes coach got mad at the refs on every play. He eventually got thrown out of th game... After the game he said that he thought about going into the referee locker room and talking to them but didnt wanna get fined...

The next game was much different Idaho came out with alot of energy going on like a 17-4 run or some sort of big run. We tried to fight back the entire game but never got closer than around 7... Oh well it was still great fun.

We now trail the stampede by one game in the division.

Next year when i go i am going to bring a pillow and a few extra blankets. its pretty cold and uncomfortable when you are sleeping in the back seat of a little honda civic...

p.s its official that portland maine got a dleague team... they have not yet announced that the celtics are going to be their affiliate but there is a 98% chance that that will happen.

Division Leaders (for the moment)!

There was nothing on cool (cavs & lakers, celtics & Spurs) so i decited to watch the Idaho Stampede vs the Iowa Energy game. I was cheering for the Energy and lucky for me they won. Now idaho has lost 4 in a row... That is good for the flash cause we have won 4 out of last five... Yeah so now we lead the division... Its sweet!!!

If you've been at the last couple flash games you'd see me in my flash duct tape jersey. Last game i was reppin JR cause it was his first game back. As soon as he saw me we talked... He said it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen!!! Im planning on making another jersey... You have to wait to see it...

The National Basketball Development League (nbdl) has got real problems. They only chose one flash player to be in the allstar game. Thats Ronald Dupree. Flash owner Brandt Andersen agrees with me that DJ (dontell) should be in the game also... there is still hope cause two current nbdl allstars just got called up. Eddie Gill also got called up. None of them will be in the Allstar game most likely so two more players can get in. Hopefully its DJ!

The worst mistake in the history of sports would have to be not putting andre ingram in the 3pt contest for the nbdl. He is the best player in the Dleague at 3's includes players who have attempted 100 or more 3's with 43%... If they are smart they will add Andre!!!

I just got finished watching the Utah Flash @ Erie Bayhawks... The first quarter was amazing the flash lead by like 15ish... Ronald dupree had ten points alone in that quarter... Dre also made his only 3 attempt that quarter... Half time we were up by 3 then we got outscored by 18 in the 3rd it was discusting... we lost the game :( and the division goes back to Idaho!!!

Its a new day!

I havent posted on here for a while... There has been alot of changes to the flash!!! Big James Lang has returned from over sea and is back on the flash!!! I had my "BIG JAMES BIG JUMPER" poster the game after i found out... Im working on some more poster so i can get the crowd more pumped up. Another thing JR and Billy went back to the Celtics, Billy played a lil, when the team was up 20 and JR to my knowledge has not dressed so he should be back in time for the D-league All Star game.

I cant decide if i should go to four or just two away flash games in the next couple weeks. I know for sure that i am going to drive up to boise, the end of February but im still undesisive if im going to the double header next weekend in Reno, it would be way fun cause id get to see last year flash player Gary Hill-Thomas. Maybe he will let me stay at his place... :)

Oh yeah we also got Ronald Dupree from Tulsa he was getting like 20ish points a game, the first time he arrived in utah was two hours before the game. I was there watching the team warm up and to show him a welcome i got some red and white duck tape and added a 2 to my flash jersey so it was number 21 and said Dupree on the back, i think he liked it. Brandt (the owner sure did)

The most amazing game in the history of basketball !!!

No flash players were at this game. There was one really cool person there, he is sort of like a flash player he goes to every game even some away. That person is me. This amazing game just so happens to be my JR Jazz game!!! So i got some new Nike blue chips (dwill style) and when ever i get new shoes i do terrible so i only shot one time and i made it, got a and one but my streak for not missing a free throw ended. In the first half our team did terrible. There was something wrong with us. Score at the end of the first 24-7. It got pretty bad some guys would yell at others if they made a little mistake. The second half we turned it up aton!! our D was pretty good. They only scored 2 points in the second half. We had the ball out of bounce with one second left and a lead of 26-28, one of my teammates threw in the ball and it went over our guys head and out of bounce. They got the ball back made the shot and got fowled, luckily he missed the free throw so we went to overtime. There it went back and forth tell we did some great plays, made our free throws and won the game by 3 final score 31-33!!!! This was extremely special because one of my teammates dad got in an accident and died a couple days before so we put his initials and the kids number on our jersey!!! Every time we huddled up we would scream his name!!! So yeah luckily i dont have any games that conflict with the flash... So far were UNDEFEATED!!! a quarter of the way through the season!

Witnessing History

Last Saturdays game vs the Bakersfield jam wasnt on tv, you couldn't listen to the radio and they didnt even have an article about it in the newspaper. The only way that you could find out about it was to watch the game online, thats what i did. (watch the games on www.d-league.com for free) This was not the kind of history that we all watched last year, when Morris Almond exploded for 53 points, a dleague record. The beginning of the game went okay for the first six minutes of the game the score was pretty close then the jam caught fire. They shot over 60% from both 2's and 3's making 11 3's overall... After trailing by as much as 47 points we lost the game by 41. That just so happen to beat the old record for the worst defeat in the history of our team of 24...

This was the second away game i have watched for the flash, the first one was live in idaho where they hammered the stampede by more than twenty points. After that game idaho has not lost a game since. I am glad i got to witness history but next time let it be something good. I got real tired of the announcers saying "looks good, is good" every time they said that it went in, which has never happened before! Oh well you cant win em all...

P.S. Take a look at the fans in the arena, There are way more fans in orem than than most other nbdl arenas...

We had almost 30 turnovers during the game!!! and still had a chance to win the game! You can tell how good we can be if we play good basketball....

Down by ten, up one, down by ten, up one, down by ten, tie game, overtime. That how it was the whole game. Billy could not buy a bucket and the refs must of gotten alot from the jam cause everything that the flash did got called. Along with that we played bad D, letting them get to the lane when ever they wanted, including a dunk in the last minute of play. Dontell Jefferson was the only person that was doing okay, and he just missed the game winning three pointer. Even JR that had 30+ points was not that hot. He took 17ish shots. Oh well game one down.

I was extremely glad with the turn up of all the fans. Only a couple of them around me were yelling at the refs when they made calls that were good for us.? well that's sports. You cant win every game. Every one needs to step it up if they want to make me happy. The playoffs are closer than you think and i need that excitement in my life...

JR Giddens, Who is on assignment from Boston Celtics, must of watched last years opening game, along with the guy who runs the clock. One again the game was so exciting that the NBDL Staff forgot to run the clock. The Refs game the flash the ball with the game tied. We gave it to the Red-Hot shooting guard Billy, who had 23 points but Austin got him good, he gave it up to (JR) Giddens who nailed a baseline shot. We won the game and now play the Vipers. That is the 3rd straight overtime game we have had with Austin. You can watch the games on the internet. Another Away game in the Books.

I couldn't wait until December to go to the first home game so i decided to go up to Burley, Idaho and watch the preseason game against the Idaho Stampede. I got there the same time as the team did so i got the opportunity to watch them warm-up. I even talked to some of the old guys, like andre ingram and some new faces. The team looks like we have improved alot thought out the time that this franchise has been only around just one short year. My fave-5 consist of some new and old player. Andre Ingram #12, Ryan Diggs #7, Bill"y" Walker #24, Dontell (DJ) Jefferson #11, and JR Giddens #15.

In the beginning of the game we had a rough start. We started out trailing, i think the score was something like 14 to 3. Then Mannix came out and we went on a 40-10 run. We were double them for most of the second quarter. Former Lakers point guard Coby Karl had a really rough game he look frustrated most of the time. By the end of the game we out scored them by around twenty.

Former BYU Cougar, Mike Hall (search mike hall byu on YouTube for an amazing dunk) didn't play until the 4th quarter he did alright but struggled a little. JR and Billy did amazing they both had 17ish points. (both are members of the Boston Celtics and both can throw it down HARD!) After the game i went and talked to DJ (Jefferson, who we traded our first round pick for) and JR. They are really nice. Well all of them are cool especially Bill Walker, who is the Class Clown! They also talked to other fans and signed autographs.

I cant wait for the opening game, I will be all dressed up and yell the entire time. I have a couple ideas for the signs that i am going to make. If you have any suggestions just tell me and you might just see them on TV or the other side of the court!

I have been keeping an eye out on the flash players that are on nba preseason teams. Which include kevin kruger, on the bucks and brian hamilton, on the nets. I make sure to get pictures of them while they are in nba jersey, you never know how long it will there 15 minutes of fame will last. Looking for pictures of them can be really hard especially when the sports website photographers are really stupid.

Unless Kevin Kruger did a Michael Jackson move then i think that there might be a number before 2, probably a 4 because there is only one milwakee buck player with number 2 thats Bell, he is 42... Kruger is #3 on the bucks any ways... So i am going to drop out of high school. you dont need any brains to work for the nba... JK...

Flash Featured on new video game!!!

So the big dudes came out with this new nba game, like we dont have enough (nba live & nba 2k) but this one is called "NBA 09 the inside" it is only available for playstation. Another note dont buy it for psp like i did... 14 of the 16 teams (not Erie or Reno) are only on PS3 and PS2...

Besides that its pretty good. The best part of the game is the commercials! Thanks to all of you great flash fans the utah flash are the only d-league team featured on the commercials. That is amazing... Yeah so you should go to game crazy and give it a try! ITs cool...

I went to the utah flash tryouts to see what players have a chance of being on our team next year. Mike hall (yes he played for byu) and Robert Allen (played in the d-league last year) look like the two guys who will make the team. Brian Lang looked pretty good also.

I also found out that multipule players from the flash will be moving on to pro leagues

Like father like son is a common saying in the world and the newest dleague team hopes that Randy Livingston will be like Brett Favre and come out of retirement.

We all know that NBDL 2007 MVP Randy Livingston won the NBDL title with the Idaho Stamped and now he is retired. He worked a little for the Utah Jazz at the Rocky Mountain Revue because he wants to become head coach. Even with the D-league teams knowing this in the tenth round of the nbdl expansion draft, which included the Reno Bighorns and the Erie Bayhawks. The second to last pick the bawhawks selected Randy. Maybe he will come out of retirement, then they will have the rights to him and maybe it was a waste of a pick, either way it wont hurt that much. The draft was filled with reject players from all the current nbdl teams...

Espn has this big article on there websites about the biggest fans in the nfl. According to many Utah Flash employees, players and fans i am the biggest fan the team has. If you still dont know i have gone to more flash games than any other flash fan. This is because i drove to boise to see a double header, i have also painted my face for a game and always have a poster or two to hold up. FYI i have won flash fan of the game multiple times...

Its been along time since i last posted here... There are alot of new things that have come up in my life and the utah flash... First of all the utah flash schedule came out!!! Also we are hosting the dleague showcase!

i am so excited, yet dissapointed that we dont have any home games tell december! also the schedule is really weird, we have a 8 game road trip and play 14 of the last 16 at home. that is really good. i cant wait to see the new team. If you didnt know the flash get to keep four players, they will probably be kevin kruger, brian hamilton, brian jackson, and and james lang We also get to keep Gabe Pruitt, Morris Almond and Kyrylo Fesenko, also might get Kosta koufus... If you didnt hear james lang did not play during the rocky mountan revue for the d-league ambasadors... This is because he blood pressure was at like 180 or something. I am 100% sure that i am going to be going to an IDAHO STAMPED GAME in BOISE!!! and probably a game in cal (anahiem or la) or dakota, also thinking about going to erie, just cause its so far away!!! Well i am going to remake my signs in high quality. I am open to ideas for anything good.

Every one knows about the Mcfarlane Nba figures they only have the biggest and best players, everyone from Carlos Boozer to Joe Johnson... I found this guy on ebay who does custom mcfarlane figures, i bribed him so he made me a custom utah flash andre ingram #12 Mcfarlane!!! He is not done yet but here it is so far!!!

Dre will be so thrilled when i show him!!!

Morris almond and kyrylo fesenko are going to be on the utah jazz summer league roster playing at the rocky mountain revue along with former ute britton johnson (he told me personally) and the new guy kosta koufos!!! Along with the Jazz playing are the nets, warriors, spurs, mavs, iran, and the d-league allstars...

You all remember Brian Hamilton, who played for the flash last year! He will be trying out for the New Jersey Nets at the Revue. (He will wear number 43) That will be really cool to see two teamates fighting it out tell someone has to go to the bench... I cant wait to go and watch them play, july 18-25. Also joining B-ham will be Marcus Williams but only in utah. (his name is not on the site...
