Educate yourself about the NBA Development League

How much does the world know about the D-League? Not much. I recently had an interview with Dan Kunigonis, a Representative from the New Jersey Nets to see how much he knew about the league. Enjoy!

DeeJay: What do Shaun Livingston, Pops Mensah-Bonsu, Mikki Moore, Chris Andersen(Birdman), Shannon Brown, CJ Miles & Ramon Sessions have in common?
Dan Kunigonis: Not sure what???
DeeJay: Maybe you will know the answer if we name a few Nets players. Rafer Alston, Bobby Simmons, Maurice Ager???
Dan Kunigonis: hmm... still not sure. haha
A: They have all spent time in the NBA Development League (NBA D-League)

DeeJay: End of the year standings: 1-Denver, 2-Utah 3-Portland 4-San Antonio 5-Los Angeles 6-New Orleans 7-Golden State 8-Los Angeles... Which team does Denver play in the first round?
Dan Kunigonis: Los Angeles
A: False. According to the new innovative playoff system that the D-League has denver would pick golden state because they are a much better matchup. “One of our fundamental goals at the NBA D-League is to utilize our unique position to explore new and different ways to grow the game,” -Dan Reed, President of the NBA D-League.

DeeJay: Your sitting at home and want to watch a high energy basketball game but dont have cable/satellite tv. You dont want to pay big bucks for League Pass on your computer. What are your options?
Dan Kunigonis: Stat Tracker
A:You can see the future of the NBA with Futurecast. The NBA D-League Web site streams every NBA D-League game (yes its even free!). Follow your favorite D-League teams and players right on your computer.

DeeJay: When i say Dee Brown what do you think of?
Dan Kunigonis: Boston Celtics
A:The head coach of the Springfield Armor

DeeJay: If Terrence Williams or Chris Douglas-Roberts were not getting enough playing time and you wanted them to keep developing their skills what would you do with them?
Dan Kunigonis: D League
DeeJay: Yessssss!!!
A: You would send them to the NBA Development League...

DeeJay: Do you know which team is the D-League affiliate for the New Jersey Nets? (They share it with New York and Philadelphia)
Dan Kunigonis: Not Sure
A: The Springfield Armor

DeeJay: Can you name a single D-
League team?

Dan Kunigonis: Nope lol

Romans 15:4 "For whatsoever things were written

aforetime were written for our learning"

If you, or someone else you know dont know very much about the NBA Development league its not to late to get started. You can get tickets for really cheap, and not for crap seats. Last year the Utah flash had a promotion, a pair of season tickets (4 rows behind the basket) for just $99 total!

------------Added on-------------

I found this amazing post a nets fan added on his blog. He is also trying to spread the word about the dleague. CHECK IT OUT! (YA THATS AN ORDER!!!)

Let’s face it, most casual NBA fans don’t really give the NBA Development League
too much thought. That’s really a shame, because there is a lot of great
basketball going on in the D-League, and if you sit down and watch a game you
are going to see some guys who could be (and in some cases soon will be) on a
NBA roster.

Here's a little additional education on the NBA D-League. If Marbury was to sign with the D-League he would have to sign with the League he would not be able to sign directly with the Flash. So really the only chance of the Flash getting Marbury is if they get the first pick in the draft.

what if marbury were to attend the utah flash open tryouts, then we would have his rights... i think

ya i checked up on that.

there was a similar situation last year mike hall (local guy from BYU) he made it out to the tryouts and we got his rights before the draft (reno was interested in him). im sure someone will be happy to pay the $150 fee for marbury to "tryout" for the flash. then he is ours!!!!

Mike Hall was a different situation the Flash got him as an allocation player not because he was at the open tryout. Similar to how Idaho got Koby Karl (allocation because he played at Boise State). Teams get some options on players that attend open tryouts, but they don't get the rights of every player that attends their tryout. Also, why would Marbury tryout for the D-league when the league would sign him no problem? Marbury to the Flash would be awesome, but seems unlikely.

Not sure how many but i know that we get a certain amount of players(if we want from the tryouts and we would pick marbury as one of them... Sorta like how after our first year we got to keep a couple players but guys like garry hill-thomas and lil millsap got drafted again (by reno).

Marbury would go to the dleague for alot of reason. If he were to come to orem, he probably wouldnt be here for very long, before a nba team called him. Also do how much publicity he (marbury) would get. I know that the chances of coming to the flash, even the dleague, are very slim but it would be great if he came for the pure love of the game.

It cant hurt to wish.......

Wow. Thanks for expanding my knowledge on this great league! I found this on nbdl.com

Allocations: Teams can also be awarded allocation players. These are typically players with significant local or player appeal to that market. For example, Jeff Horner was allocated to the Iowa Energy in 2007 after playing for the University of Iowa Hawkeyes.
